Registration for the June 6 - 8 Workshop on Designing Secure Campus Infrastructures with Directories and Certificate Authorities to be held in Minneapolis is closed, as of Friday, May 11.

Workshop on Designing Secure Campus Infrastructures with Directories and Certificate Authorities: June 6 - 8, 2001

This workshop will:

* Provide participants with an organized framework for thinking about and planning for Institution-wide Directories and Certificate Authorities. This two-day event will include topics such as:

  • components of directory services
  • setting up institution-wide directories
  • data formatting and edu-person work
  • authentication & authorization
  • cryptography and certificates, both client and server
  • setting up certificate authorities

* Be led by Jeff Schiller, Network Manager at MIT, and Frank Grewe, Manager of Enterprise Internet Services at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities, along with Michael Gettes, Lead Application Systems Integrator at Georgetown Institute for Information Assurance, Georgetown University

* This workshop is being offered with support from the National Science Foundation, Advanced Networking Infrastructure and Research Program.

Why: To help you and your campus develop the infrastructure for secure online transactions from anywhere
To quickly get up to speed and develop a
structured way of thinking about these issues.
Who: Technical leaders on campuses who have responsibility for tracking, monitoring and determining the design and deployment of institution-wide secure and flexible systems. The workshop is fairly technical in nature, so it is recommended primarily for technical management and operational personnel. It is also recommended that, where possible, a minimum of two IT professionals from an institution attend.


* We are inviting representatives from CREN's CA pilot institutions to speak first hand on their experiences with setting up a CA and also representatives of some of the HEPKI working groups focusing on technical and policy issues in these areas to participate in this workshop.

Registration Fees

* There will be a workshop fee of $200 for attendees from CREN member institutions, and a fee of $340 for non-members. This fee includes the two days of workshop, reception (one free drink & cash bar), breakfast/lunch (both days), snacks, and materials.

Hotel Rates

* CREN has been offered a special single double rate of $135.00/night w/additional persons at $25 each at the Hyatt. When making reservations, please mention that you are registering for CREN's Workshop. The Hyatt Regency's telephone number is (612) 370-1234 and the toll free number is 1-800-233-1234. The reservation cut off date is Friday, May 11, 2001 so register early to assure special rate and availability.

* The Hyatt Regency Minneapolis is located on the southern end of downtown's famous Nicollet Mall. It is convenient to shopping, dining and nightlife for all tastes.

* Coach USA offers transportation for hotel guests to and from MSP International Airport at a discounted rate of $13.00 one-way, $20.00 round trip. Taxi cabs range from $18.00-$22.00 one way.

* Above ground parking is attached to the hotel. Rates for overnight hotel guests is $11.75 with in-and-out privileges. The discounted rate of $5.25 is available for those entering before 8:00 am and departing before 8:00 pm.

Cancellation Policy:

  • Registrants who cancel may send a substitute with no penality or additional charge.
  • Full registration fee refunded if cancellation notice is received before May 10, 2001.
  • One half registration fee refunded if cancellation notice received by May 24, 2001
  • No refund issued after May 24, 2001.
